I stand fast against a sudden dream–
feel the strength draining from my knees–
there’s a pain drilling its way through my head–
outside forces are pressuring me –
into something but I won’t concede–
I can still decide what’s for the best–
or for the worst– or for the worst–
our children have a lot to fear–
for common sense just isn’t spoken here –
you have to close your eyes to view the world–
a lot of things will keep me up at night–
like I don’t think I lit the furnace right–
but a soul made up of stone could never burn–
or cast a glow– or cast a glow–
life is all falling down–
when it does they put you in the ground–
and your friends and family gather ‘round–
wishing it was themselves in the ground–
something strange has just occurred to me–
what if I can’t wake up from this dream–
I’m strapped forever to this bed–
I wonder would it really be that bad–
to go without what you never had–
why not just be glad with where you are instead–
you’re not some place else–
you’re not some place else–
you’re not some place else–
life is all falling down–
when it does they put you in the ground–
and your friends and family gather ‘round–
wishing it was themselves in the ground–
