| A Short Biography
of Eddy Zenn |
| As a guitarist singer
songwriter, Eddy Zenn has crafted his own unique style of music blending
elements of folk, rock, blues and jazz into a musical storytelling
art. His lyrics speak of the romantic trappings and social pitfalls
of living in the modern age. "Most of my songs are about purpose
and motion," Eddy says. Describing his writing process, he finds
his musical reflections are often about relationships although not
necessarily his own. Take for instance, Invasions of the Baby Snatchers
which examines the difficult dynamics of a May to December romance.
Which Zenn never experienced personally, but was inspired to write
when a friend sought his counsel. |
| Inspiration comes in many forms. A song written by
Ani DiFranco or Peter Mulvy might stir Eddy Zenn to try a new alternative
tuning. A Rather Happy Song about Death and Adventure was written
one night after watching Cameron Crowe’s Vanilla Sky. However,
on some creative endeavors it’s pure imagination. For example,
the brooding stream-of-consciousness writing in Things Simply Fall
Apart allow the listener to project his own experience onto the emotion
portrayed in the song. Generally, during the creative process, Eddy
Zenn crafts the music before putting words to paper. He began writing
songs at the age of 19, after teaching himself to play guitar by listening
to Beatles albums. Eddy Zenn plays both the twelve-string and six-string
guitar, although his current favorite is a blond six-string Taylor.

| Eddy Zenn’s, Currents
CD was release in the fall of 1998. Currents is included in City Weekly’s
1998 Top 25 Local CDs; Bill Frost wrote “Any collection of songs
that makes you think about your own existence a little more than you
did before you picked it up is worth another listen-Currents is good
for many.” Ben Fulton of City Weekly wrote, “…you’ve
got to admire anyone who can span the lyrical gap between candy bars,
immortality, and organized religion. Anyone seeking a possible route
to local folk Nirvana will want to keep an eye on Zenn.” Seven
years and many performances later, Strange Destinations is Eddy Zenn’s
second album being released in the Spring of 2005. Backed by the musical
talents of San Diego producers, Myndi Anjuli, Steve Murdock and drummer
CJ Burton, the Strange Destinations CD is an engineering marvel in
the best spirit of independent music. In his 2005 review City Weekly’s
Randy Harward said, “Eddy Zenn can construct a toe-tapper.” |
| Eddy Zenn has been a regular
performer at Salt Lake’s First Night Celebration and thoroughly
enjoys his summer lunchtime shows at the Gallivan Center. He sometimes
shouts, “Put down your pencils and listen to the music,”
to the tall buildings for the downtown workers to come out and enjoy
the sunshine. Eddy Zenn was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on January
28, 1970. Coming from a talented musical family, he has always been
passionate about music. Some of his strongest musical influences have
been artists such as David Bowie, The Beatles and Donovan. He lives
in the Salt Lake avenues with Mrs. Zenn and his big black dog, Nigel.
